Gender Sensitivity in School Textbooks in Bangladesh: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

This study examines the gender sensitivity of school textbooks in Bangladesh as school is a ‘legitimate agent’ of
socialization to educate children. The study finds
that there are gender discriminations and stereotypes in
 the textbooks in using language and portraying men and women. Less participation of women in writing
 and editing textbooks has made things worse. However the study ends with some recommendations to improve the gender sensitivity situation in the textbooks.
